Meggan Guns, 39, is a seasoned prosecutor with 14 years of experience in the Des Moines area. A dedicated resident of West Des Moines, Meggan is committed to ensuring the safety of the Dallas County community, advocating for justice, and actively leading the county attorney's office to address the needs of the growing community.
Originally from Dubuque, Iowa, Meggan earned degrees in Business Management, Spanish, and Legal Studies from Loras College. During her academic journey, she spent a semester abroad at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Following her undergraduate studies, she relocated to Des Moines to pursue a Juris Doctorate and Masters in Business Administration at Drake University. Meggan's commitment to excellence in oral advocacy was recognized when she graduated Order of the Barristers during her time at Drake Law.
In 2010, Meggan began her career in the Dallas County Attorney’s Office after a year in private practice. Over nearly seven years, she prosecuted a wide range of crimes, mental health and substance abuse committals, and truancy cases. Her dedication to public service led her to the Polk County Attorney’s Office in Des Moines, where she initially worked in the Drug and Gang Unit and transitioned to the major offense bureau in late 2019. Meggan specializes in prosecuting victim major offenses, including homicides, sex offenses, crimes against children, and other felony offenses. She is actively engaged in multiple metro work groups focused on protecting vulnerable victims from child neglect and human trafficking.
Meggan and her husband, Matt, have called West Des Moines home since 2006, establishing deep roots in the Dallas County community. Their two daughters attend Waukee schools and participate in local sports and arts programs. Meggan further contributes to the community by serving on the Friends of West Des Moines Parks and Recreation board, demonstrating her commitment to enhancing local parks and nature trails for families to enjoy. She is dedicated to continuing her service to the people of Dallas County as Dallas County Attorney.
