“I am Jeannine Ritchie, the current Dallas County Attorney, with 35 years of dedicated service in our county attorney’s office. During my tenure, I have had the privilege of working closely with Meggan Guns when she was in our office from 2010-2017, and it is with great enthusiasm that I endorse her candidacy for the position of Dallas County Attorney.
Meggan is an outstanding prosecutor, demonstrating a remarkable blend of legal acumen and unwavering ethical standards. She has continued her work as a prosecutor as an Assistant Polk County Attorney, since 2017. Meggan possesses the critical skills necessary to effectively manage and lead this office, ensuring that justice is served fairly and impartially for all residents of Dallas County.
The role of County Attorney is crucial, and it demands a leader who understands that it should transcend politics. This position, while elected, must prioritize justice over political affiliations, adhering to the principle that all prosecutors have an ethical duty to pursue justice with integrity. Meggan Guns exemplifies this commitment to fairness and justice. Her approach is deeply rooted in a dedication to upholding the law and ensuring that every case is prosecuted with the utmost integrity. She has the fortitude to make difficult decisions and the capacity to enforce the law impartially, regardless of the political pressures. The people of Dallas County deserve an attorney who will uphold these principles, and Meggan is uniquely qualified to fulfill this role.
I strongly believe that Meggan Guns is the right choice for Dallas County Attorney. Her experience, dedication, and ethical commitment make her the ideal candidate to continue the tradition of excellence in our office. I urge the citizens of Dallas County to consider Meggan’s qualifications and vote for her on election day, November 5, 2024. With Meggan at the helm, we can be confident that our legal system will remain just, fair and effective for all.”
"I've known Meggan for almost two decades and can tell you she is one of the most honest, hardworking leaders that I've ever met. She'll keep our families safe, uphold justice, and always fight for what's right. She'll serve the Dallas County community incredibly well.”
“I have worked in a professional capacity with Meggan Guns since February of 2017. The bulk of my career is and has been working with victims of violent crime, most specifically both child and adult sexual assault. Meggan not only looks at the specific details of each individual case presented to her by law enforcement, but she also is so thorough that she looks for those other bits of evidence that were maybe missing or overlooked (maybe talking to a witness, getting collaborating statements, etc). Meggan does things “right,” goes above and beyond what is expected by Iowa Code, and is one of the few prosecutors I have met over the years who engages with a survivor and/or their parents at the inception of a criminal case. She meets with them, explains the confusing process, gets them connected with community resources, and gives them realistic expectations. Meggan also keeps them informed along the way (which can be quite lengthy) with any updates. She truly does her best to support the survivor and their family, while also doing her job of holding the perpetrator accountable. Meggan does this in a truly kind, caring, victim centered and trauma informed way. Meggan has an extraordinary way of connecting with people on a personal level, while still being professional and ethical. She is passionate, thorough, smart, fair, honest, and an excellent communicator. I speak highly of Meggan often, and when I speak of her, I always tell people how I wish all prosecutors were like her. Meggan would be the absolute best person to lead the Dallas County Attorney’s Office.”
"I am proud to endorse Meggan Guns for Dallas County Attorney. She has a proven track record of prosecution, extensive trial experience, and a focus on rehabilitation for non-violent offenders. With her business acumen and MBA, Meggan is uniquely qualified to provide the kind of leadership the citizens of Dallas County need and deserve."
“I have been in this field for twenty years, with the last ten dedicated more specifically to child abuse. This has led me to work closely with Meggan Guns on various tasks, and I wholeheartedly support her for Dallas County Attorney. Meggan’s passion and dedication to supporting victims is truly inspiring. She firmly believes in justice and fearlessly advocates for it both inside and outside the courtroom.
While her impeccable record in the courtroom speaks volumes, it's her commitment to endeavors beyond its confines that truly sets her apart. Meggan is not only compassionate but also driven to consistently do what is right. She uplifts those around her and readily shares her wealth of experience and expertise without hesitation. I find her work ethic truly commendable.
Few individuals are as deeply invested in making our community safer as Meggan. Whenever I embark on a project, she is among my first contacts, and the outcomes are consistently enhanced by her involvement. Meggan embodies fairness, ethics, and humility.”
“I am proud to support Meggan Guns for Dallas County Attorney because Dallas County needs a county attorney who knows how to prosecute a case and get a conviction. I have known Meggan for 10 plus years and know her to be a tireless advocate for the State of Iowa, law enforcement and, most importantly, those who have been the victims of crime. Meggan is tough but fair. She is willing to listen to all sides but will make decisions that are right. Criminal defense attorneys know that Meggan is not going to be buffaloed into doing what is easiest, but that she will take a case that needs to go to trial and obtain a conviction. Dallas County needs a County Attorney with the trial experience that only Meggan possesses. That is one of the many reasons that I am proud to support Meggan Guns for Dallas County Attorney.”
“I met Meggan 17 years ago in our first year at Drake University Law School. I know Meggan’s character and she shows every day that she is honest, fair, and no nonsense.
Meggan is also fearless. When a case she was handling was closely followed in the media, I asked her, “are you ever afraid?” After all, she’s standing in a courtroom squaring off with people accused of serious, violent crimes. She told me no, because she asks children who are victims to be brave enough to confront their abuser, and if they can do it, then so can she.
Meggan is a self-made hardworking mom, friend, and attorney who juggles kids, trials, and now an election. She does it humbly and with honor. I’m so proud of her and I hope the voters of Dallas County get to know her and see her character firsthand.”
“My name is Tiffany Meredith, and I am excited to support Meggan Guns as the next Dallas County Attorney. I have known Meggan for seventeen years and am constantly in awe of who she is, in and out of the courtroom. To me, she is the kind of mother, friend, and prosecutor I strive to be.
Meggan is a person who fights for justice and wants to ensure victim’s voices are heard. From being selected to be a part of the Human Trafficking Interim Committee and the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Interim Study Committee for the Iowa Legislature, to a member of Multi-Disciplinary Teams to address child abuse and neglect and human trafficking, to being a person other prosecutors can reach out to for help and guidance; that is who Meggan is. She is a person who sees a need in our communities and does everything she can to fill the void before most realize the gap is there.
As a prosecutor in a neighboring county, I have had the chance to work on cases that cross between Meggan’s jurisdiction and mine. On a handful of occasions, I have not only called Meggan for advice and guidance due to her extraordinary expertise, but to ask her to consider charging a case because she has victims we discovered during the course of our case. Not once has Meggan hesitated to review the materials and charge the case, if warranted. She did this to help make sure every offender was held accountable and no victim lost their voice.
Meggan Guns is the best choice in my opinion to be the next Dallas County Attorney. She takes on the hard cases that many would walk away from and never shies away from a challenge. Meggan is the kind of person who lifts those around her up because she believes in mentoring and bettering our profession. She encourages, inspires, and supports all who come into contact with her. She is truly the best person for the position and I encourage everyone to vote for her. She is what everyone should want in a county attorney.”
“I will be voting for Meggan Guns for Dallas County Attorney in November. In my 26 years of elected office (the last 9 as Dallas County Treasurer), I’ve learned many things. While the elected office can merely act as a figurehead, it is essential that they lead by example. They need to take on the tough tasks and dedicate themselves to the job that taxpayers are paying them to do. A good County Attorney needs to personally prosecute cases, listen to staff input and make needed improvements. Dallas County deserves the best. Please join this longtime Republican and former chair of the Dallas County GOP in electing the best - Meggan Guns for Dallas County Attorney!”
“It doesn’t matter whether your County Attorney is a Democrat, Republican, or Libertarian. It matters that she has the intelligence, aptitude, experience, leadership skills, and confidence to serve the residents of Dallas County when they need it most. To seek truth and do justice.
Meggan Guns has all that and then some. For almost 15 years she’s been serving Dallas and Polk County as an Assistant County Attorney, getting justice for crime victims and prosecuting criminal defendants at trial. She is not only the most qualified candidate on the ballot for Dallas County Attorney this November, she is also the best person. She’s a dedicated public servant, wife, mother, community member, and friend. She lives in and is invested in making Dallas County better. If you haven’t met Meggan yet, please do so soon. We met at Drake Law School almost twenty years ago, and I have been blessed by her friendship ever since. I whole-heartedly endorse Meggan Guns for Dallas County Attorney, but don’t take my word for it, ask your local law enforcement officer for his or her opinion. I’m confident we agree. Vote Meggan Guns this November!”
If the citizens of Dallas County want the best person for the position of County Attorney, Meggan Guns is clearly the choice you will want to make.
I have had the privilege of working with Meggan for several years and know she is fair, professional, honest, and can clearly determine who needs to be prosecuted and who would better need to receive services for treatment of their addictions.
Meggan works well with others and is a problem-solving attorney that will not let party affiliation get in the way of making the right choice. Thank you, and vote Guns for Dallas County Attorney!

“I am honored and very proud to support Meggan Guns as the next Dallas County Attorney. I have known Meggan since 2017 when she first started as an attorney in the Polk County Attorney's Office. Meggan is an excellent trial lawyer who is very thorough in handling serious felony cases and will hold offenders accountable for their criminal conduct. She is fair and honest and will protect our most vulnerable, our children and elderly, making sure their voices will be heard in our court system. Meggan will work closely with law enforcement to make sure the law is enforced equally for all and that those who engage in criminal conduct will be held responsible for their crimes. She will make the right decisions for the right reasons, because that’s just who she is.”
