During my tenure, I have had the privilege of working closely with Meggan Guns when she was in our office from 2010-2017, and it is with great enthusiasm that I endorse her candidacy for the position of Dallas County Attorney.

Meggan is an outstanding prosecutor, demonstrating a remarkable blend of legal acumen and unwavering ethical standards.  She has continued her work as a prosecutor as an Assistant Polk County Attorney, since 2017. “I have worked in a professional capacity with Meggan Guns since February of 2017.  The bulk of my career is and has been working with victims of violent crime, most specifically both child and adult sexual assault.  Meggan not only looks at the specific details of each individual case presented to her by law enforcement, but she also is so thorough that she looks for those other bits of evidence that were maybe missing or overlooked (maybe talking to a witness, getting collaborating statements, etc).  Meggan does things “right,” goes above and beyond what is expected by Iowa Code, and is one of the few prosecutors I have met over the years who engages with a survivor and/or their parents at the inception of a criminal case.  She meets with them, explains the confusing process, gets them connected with community resources, and gives them realistic expectations.  Meggan also keeps them informed along the way (which can be quite lengthy) with any updates.  She truly does her best to support the survivor and their family, while also doing her job of holding the perpetrator accountable.  Meggan does this in a truly kind, caring, victim centered and trauma informed way.  Meggan has an extraordinary way of connecting with people on a personal level, while still being professional and ethical.  She is passionate, thorough, smart, fair, honest, and an excellent communicator.  I speak highly of Meggan often, and when I speak of her, I always tell people how I wish all prosecutors were like her.  Meggan would be the absolute best person to lead the Dallas County Attorney’s Office.”

“My name is Tiffany Meredith, and I am excited to support Meggan Guns as the next Dallas County Attorney. I have known Meggan for seventeen years and am constantly in awe of who she is, in and out of the courtroom. To me, she is the kind of mother, friend, and prosecutor I strive to be.

Meggan is a person who fights for justice and wants to ensure victim’s voices are heard. From being selected to be a part of the Human Trafficking Interim Committee and the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Interim Study Committee for the Iowa Legislature, to a member of Multi-Disciplinary Teams to address child abuse and neglect and human trafficking, to being a person other prosecutors can reach out to for help and guidance; that is who Meggan is. As a prosecutor in a neighboring county, I have had the chance to work on cases that cross between Meggan’s jurisdiction and mine. Not once has Meggan hesitated to review the materials and charge the case, if warranted. She did this to help make sure every offender was held accountable and no victim lost their voice.

Meggan Guns is the best choice in my opinion to be the next Dallas County Attorney. She takes on the hard cases that many would walk away from and never shies away from a challenge. Meggan is the kind of person who lifts those around her up because she believes in mentoring and bettering our profession. She encourages, inspires, and supports all who come into contact with her.
